Buffalo Nickel

This story’s a sad one. My grandfather always had a fascination with coins for as long as I can remember, especially with the buffalo nickel. I think this coin especially intrigued him because of the images on it related to where he lived in Plains, Kansas. The town’s name is clearly related to the Plains Indians, who hunted buffalo across the midwest, including Kansas. My grandfather would also always tell everyone that he didn’t have a nickel in his pocket as a joke when someone need money. When my grandfather passed away, my brother put a buffalo nickel in his pocket so he would never be without one like he always claimed. Our family even handed out nickels to everyone so they would never be without one. Although my buffalo nickel is not a rare or old one, it symbolizes the story of my grandfather. I keep it in my car in a place I know I will never forget about it or use it.
